Cover: Pianist and singer Diana Krall returns to the Great American Songbook for her new album, Turn Up the Quiet.


  • Chris Potter: Chris Potter—who topped the Tenor Saxophone category in the 2016 DownBeat Readers Poll—has recorded a new album, The Dreamer Is the Dream. His collaborators on the disc include David Virelles, Joe Martin and Marcus Gilmore.
  • Trombone Shorty: Dynamic bandleader Trombone Shorty will spend 2017 headlining his own shows and playing sold-out arenas as the opening act for rock group the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Trombone Shorty recently signed with Blue Note, which will release his new album, Parking Lot Symphony.
  • Thundercat: For his third album, Drunk, bassist/vocalist Thundercat enlisted a diverse array of collaborators, including Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Kamasi Washington, Flying Lotus, Pharrell Williams, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. Thundercat’s tour schedule includes a return visit to the Coachella Music & Arts Festival.
