Cover: Throughout his career, pianist Vijay Iyer has wowed critics and fans with his impressive performance techniques and thought-provoking projects. His new release, UnEasy, is a trio album recorded with bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Tyshawn Sorey. Among the original compositions is “Combat Breathing,” which was inspired by a commitment to social justice. The version of “Drummer’s Song” included here serves as a tribute to the tune’s composer: pianist and educator Geri Allen (1957–2017).
