Cover: Saxophonist James Carter, who has toured the globe with the James Carter Organ Trio, has a new album on Blue Note, Live At Newport Jazz Festival, recorded with Gerard Gibbs (organ) and Alex White (drums). Early in his career, Carter worked with Wynton Marsalis and Lester Bowie, and later he became a repeat winner in the Baritone Saxophone category of the DownBeat Readers Poll. Carter also leads a quartet, Elektrik Outlet, and he performs the Concerto For Saxophones And Orchestra, which combines elements of jazz and classical music with Latin rhythms.
